On November 14, 2026, counter)induction opens its new season at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York with New Encounters, a program that gathers poetry, music, kinetic performance, and reflections on the future, an evening for dwelling poetically among what is still to come. Boyce's Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The is an anxious rendering of desire's temporality, love listening for footsteps not yet heard, as one listens at dusk for a guest who may be a god. Kyle Bartlett's new work for cello and poetry, Seeds, written for Dekine and cellist Caleb van der Swaagh, stages a dialogue between instrument and voice, each answering the other as across a threshold, as river answers shore. David Sanford's Metropolis III offers a dense, kinetic urban soundscape for bass clarinet, guitar, and piano, the city's restless light burning over mortal streets. Diego Tedesco's new solo guitar piece, slow and quietly beautiful, is premiered by Dan Lippel, a single voice held in the stillness before dawn. Wilfrido Terrazas's Hub of the Mind (2017) draws bass clarinet, cello, and piano into an exploratory space between composition and improvisation, where the score loosens and song begins. Allen Shawn's From a Sad Café offers, by contrast, an intimate cello-and-guitar meditation on sorrow, the grief that sings in the dark. Throughout, the music will be punctuated by Dekine's reading of their poetry, keeping vigil over the evening.
